Organizing, Packing, Selling...

Today we spent a good part of the day organizing, packing and selling stuff to get ready for our move. If you haven't seen the house we're moving to, our photo album is here.


Even though it was a foreclosure, it's really clean and move-in ready, and it's been highly upgraded (which I fear might have been the previous owner's downfall.) Unfortunately for them, their loss has become our gain. But we really like the house and are excited to start settling in there.

I really never thought we'd buy a house out here in San Diego, because they were so expensive when we moved here 2 years ago. But now that the prices have dropped considerably, we're able to buy something decent for the same monthly payment as our rent currently is. Why help someone else pay for their house when we can own one?

So we're supposed to close this upcoming Thursday, and Greg's mom was able to book a trip out here for that weekend to help us with the packing and moving, and possibly a yard sale. I'm hoping to get a lot done before she gets here so she can help more on the moving and unpacking end instead of just packing up. :)

Today I started gathering picture frames and some decorative knick-knacks and wrapping them in newspaper to pack. I have a handful of boxes, but I haven't quite decided how to pack yet since I have so many books and breakables, and they get heavy quickly.

I also did some organizing, like putting all of the yard sale stuff together, sorting things into the yard sale piles, and putting things away so they get packed in the right place. Then I took the linens off the guest room futon and folded them up, as well as took down the curtain rod in that room. So aside from packing the closet stuff in there and deciding whether or not we'll have room for the sewing machine table at the new house, that room's pretty cleared out.

Greg listed a few things on Craigslist including our old sofa and a charcoal grill. The sofa sold pretty quickly, and Greg mentioned to the guy who bought it that he had just finished clearing off an old computer that he was about to list, and the guy bought it, too. Yay!

I didn't end up getting quite as much progress done today as I'd hoped. It gets a little overwhelming and I find myself doing piddly little things because I just don't know where to get started. But tomorrow I'm planning to really tackle some packing and attack the yard sale piles with pricing stickers. Wish me luck!
