Almost Homeowners

Well we signed the papers last night for the house, but things work differently in California than they did back home. Signing papers isn't the last step.

This morning the papers went back to the escrow company, then were sent to the selling bank for a final look over, and in the meantime we were waiting for them to send some documents to our lender so they could send the funding...and it's all a crazy, convoluted process I don't really understand.

So around lunchtime we didn't think the funding was going to happen today, and we were afraid we might not get everything done before the weekend or actually be able to take possession. Apparently things worked out however, so now it sounds like all that's left is for the sale to be "recorded" and then after that's verified, we should be proud homeowners. And hopefully we'll get the keys tomorrow!

Greg's parents both arrived today (separately since originally just his mom was going to make it out) and although I had to work a full day, Greg was able to stay home after the first airport trip and he and his mom got to work packing and made dinner. A girl could get used to that!

When Carter's flight came in, they went to pick him up, then came and got me from work on the way back, since Greg and I carpool and I was carless. We had dinner (shepherd's pie, yum!), then we just visited for a little while before everyone started winding down. It's a little early for our bedtime, but since it's a 2-hour time difference, understandably when folks come to visit from the Central time zone, they're tired before us. :) Sounds like a good night to read and relax just a little before the weekend of craziness.

Hopefully next time I check in, we'll be moving in. Shortly after that we'll be ready for company, so start planning your San Diego trips!
