So here's a quick recap of recent fun/interesting things we've been up to:
We have had some visitors in the last couple of months, and more who are making plans! Yay! If you want to come stay at the Spence Hotel, just let us know. We love visitors!
Greg's Uncle Wayne (on his mom's side) was in town on business a little while back, and was able to come stay a couple of nights with us. It was a short stay, but we really enjoyed having the company and time to catch up. One thing I've learned as I get older is that it's really nice to get to know your family members once you're old enough to really relate to them, and they're not just that fun older relative person you see a few times a year. I know Greg and I both had a great time talking with Wayne and learning more about his work and hobbies.
And even more recently, Greg's Aunt Sallie and Uncle Rick (on his dad's side) and three of their kids came to visit. We spent a couple of days hanging out with them, one of those days at Sea World, and it was so nice to see them! The two younger kids, Matt and Cara, stayed with us at the house, while Sallie, Rick and Brett stayed at a nearby hotel. We introduced the family to In N Out while they were here, too. :)
A few weekends ago we took a motorcycle ride up to Julian. It's a beautiful drive up there, and a great little town about an hour away from us, to the east and up in the mountains. They're famous for their apples and apple pie. They have a cute little downtown area (about 1 block of shops and restaurants) and it's a popular destination for weekend drives. The only problem is that while it was warm down in Escondido, it sure was cool driving up there on the bike. We both ended up buying jackets once we got there, and of course we had to stop for hot apple pie on the way, hehe.
We've also been working on improving a few things around the house. We recently bought some patio furniture and are really enjoying that. Last Sunday it was in the high 70s and we both put on our swimsuits and tried out the pool...still a little cold for a swim! But once we got out we lounged on the new lounge chairs and enjoyed the warm sun and breeze. All I needed was someone to bring me a piƱa colada!
Another project we did was installing a closet organization system in our master closet. We just have a sliding door closet, not a walk-in, and all that was in there was a hanging rod the length of the closet and a shelf above it. So we got online and planned out a better system with Closet Maid's website, bought the pieces at Home Depot, and within two evenings it was done. It's so much nicer now! Plenty of hanging area, drawers and shelves. It feels like a more grown-up master closet now, even if it's not a walk-in. Pictures coming soon!
And we did finally install new attic stairs and had the attic jacked up and fixed in the garage. (Can't remember if I mentioned that before or not.) That was the only real problem with the house when we bought it, and it didn't end up costing that much to fix. So the last big house project I have is to finish going through the storage tubs in the garage and weeding out what I don't need to keep hauling around, so the garage will be nice and organized.
Well that's about it for now. My mom's coming for a visit in a couple of weeks so I'll be sure to update with a recap of our adventures and photos.
And then we head into summer and convention season. Greg and I will be in Vegas in June for our company's convention, attending a huge convention here in San Diego in July, and then I'll be in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend for another convention. As they're all gaming, comics, and sci-fi fantasy conventions, you can expect lots of interesting pictures. :)
