The town just across the interstate from us (to the west) is San Marcos. It takes about 10 minutes to drive there from our house, because we're on the east side of Escondido.
San Marcos seems to have everything Escondido doesn't. We've already made a few trips to Chick-Fil-A, Fry's, and Best Buy. They also have one of my favorite junk food places, Long John Silver's. I was just browsing the Google Maps street view to check out the shopping center where LJS is located, and realized they have a Wal-Mart and Kohls there, too...two places I thought I'd have to drive down to Poway to shop. Guess not!
Google Maps is so cool, and our location is getting better every time I realize how close things are. :)
