I've got a lot to catch up on, so I'll put a link below it so it doesn't take up the whole page. :)
So we moved into the new house in November. We celebrated Thanksgiving with friends, but I also cooked our normal Turkey Day menu on the Friday after so we'd have lots of leftovers. :) Everything was delicious at both homes, and it was nice having a 4-day weekend right after we'd moved in so we didn't have to take extra time off to get the house in order.
December rolled around and we were still busy unpacking and decorating. Greg made a really great shelving unit for the office closet, and I would still like to get better organized in the other two bedroom closets and the sunroom closet. We also planned a little holiday party the weekend before Christmas and that motivated us to get the majority of the house looking presentable.
We flew home to Memphis for the holidays and had a great time seeing everyone and catching up, as well as getting our fill of Memphis foods. We missed seeing a few people though, so I hope next time around we can catch up with them.
My birthday was a couple of weeks ago and we spent the day at Disneyland, taking advantage of their free admission on your birthday offer. We had a lot of fun roaming the uncrowded park on a Thursday in January, enjoying the 75+ degree and sunny weather...not my usual birthday environment back home.
This past weekend we were invited to a coworker's place to have dinner and play games with a small group of folks, and had a great time. This weekend Greg's good friend Joe is flying in from Phoenix. There's a UFC fight on Saturday night and then of course the Super Bowl on Sunday. It's nice to keep ourselves busy with a social life occasionally. :)
As the house is getting settled, I'm finding a few little challenges with decorating, and with finding places to put things, so I've been reaching out for advice from friends. I love the internet!
We're having the attic over the garage fixed this week...some of the joists had broken (we knew before we moved in) and the ceiling had fallen about 9 inches in the center. Once it's fixed we'll be able to put our seasonal and storage stuff up in the attic and that will clean out the rest of the space in the garage. (And we found a local carpenter who's doing it for way less than we'd thought.)
So I'm left with all those little things you hang onto over the years, and don't really have a place or a function for. I'm planning to scan and photograph a lot of things that I just want to remember but don't need to physically hang onto. But I still have a lot of sorting and decision making to do with all of the things that aren't furniture or necessary elements of a room.
I uploaded a few pictures of our living room the other day, as I was asking for ideas for decorating our fireplace mantel. I thought I'd post them here, too, so friends and family can see.
We need to hang up some more stuff on the walls, and I have some material mom sent me that would make great curtains for the front window. I'm also wondering if a rug would add another layer of dimension and some grounding... So there's still stuff to be done, but here's a peek at how it's looking so far.

As always, the guest room is ready to go and our calendar for the year is pretty empty. Call now to make your reservations! :)
